One of the most important aspects of a wooden fence is treating your garden fence to make it last longer.
Traditionally fences were painted, a very time-consuming job, compared with today’s generally accepted treatment of preservative coloured stain – the range of which is considerable.
Most fences, when painted were white. But now one can see fences in a wide range of colours. Also the use of coloured preservative stain has increased the time between treatments when compared to painting. It also has a further benefit in that the preservative stain does not flake and therefore fence maintenance is made considerable less time consuming and easier.
This also applies when compared to metal railing as, when, rust starts to take a hold it can be a time consuming, very regular and costly operation. Wooden fences are also much easier, and less costly to maintain than a hedge which will require regular trimming.
